Join museum professionals, historians, and others for the annual conference/ family reunion at the Father Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives and Museum Building. Pacific historian David Igler will present the keynote address. His work The Great Ocean: Pacific Worlds from Captain Cook to the Gold Rush presents intriguing ways to consider the historical connections that spanned the Pacific Ocean- ways that wholly incorporate Alaska.
I'll be presenting on Fort Kodiak, 1868- 1870 and taking part in the Fisheries History Speed Talk Session, during which a variety of projects dedicated to seafood industry culture will be introduced. This year's conference in many ways is the culmination of the Alaska Historic Canneries Initiative and will feature many sessions dedicated to the history of the seafood industry.
